Studio

so recently i got myself a nice little studio set up, backdrops, lights...the lot

here are some shot that i've taken just having a little play around with it, using gels and whatnot, as you can see i prefer the low key/minimal lighting techniques....just a personal preference, takes a while to get it right(ish)!

the first two are of my housemate with his stunning double bass, the rest are of me, those of you who know me in real life and are observant will notice that i've had my barnet set upon by scissors as well!

Photography shenanigans

some pictures from the magic picture box for you to wrap your peepers around, me and TC went for a walk and found some buildings and whatnot to look at, like most photographers i love abandoned buildings and places so this was just a chance to indulge myself in that and generally walk around, oh and to use my new 50mm f1.8 lens! anyways enjoy... comments welcome etc.. you know the deal..

Scrufftastic things

the above mentioned world famous trouser jazz musician made an appearance in Leicester last night at the new O2 academy at Leicester university, i was privy enough to secure myself a ticket and attend! and it was a damn good night, certainly up there with the 'best of my life' collection i can tell you that!
the only downside was that i went to work at 6am this morning after only having around 2 hours sleep after getting in!

however i did purchase myself a rather splendid mr scruff mug! results shown below

makin' books

used some scrap paper to make a fancy new sketchbook A5 sized, it may not be perfectly straight or have fancy edging but it's mine and made by me!


plus it's a good way to get rid of some scrap paper!

more and more..

again some more of these pieces from various song lyrics and titles etc...

may develop these into some sort of series possibly...gonna work on it

there's always time for design...

so i've been totally going for these sorts of things recently, it's just when a song or line from a song grabs me i feel as thugh i should do something about it and this is what happens...

also they're not always songs sometimes it just me being all arty and emotional etcetera....

so i decided to get busy working on some stuff, just generally to keep my head in the game and to make some pretty things.

here are a couple of pieces with different colour ways used, and on the last piece are lyrics taken from the simian mobile disco song audacity of huge, i may still add some stuff to this one but i liked it like it is for now.

Long time no see hombré

So uni's over and done with, sad times made some great friends and had unforgettable fun to boot!!
best three years of my life.....so far!


now time to get down to the business of design, graphic design.

as i don't start on my Enterprise inc. business mentoring course until september i have set myself some briefs to keep myself busy and bolster my portfolio as well!

so below are a few little things i've been doing for funzies, these are ideas for a rebrand of a surf company called seed surf co. as you can see i'm playing off of the name quite laboriously!

on the colour i've tried to keep it simple with a few earthy tones, all these were drawn in fineliner and the colour is with coloured pencils, at the moment they are presented quite roughly as i'm still working them up and experimenting etc.

Creativity for the masses

so I was bored and thought you know what i'm going to make something that looks nice! because that's what I'm going to do for the rest of my life!

it's basically going to be a self promotional piece that shows some of my interests and whatnot as well as my Dd logo.

In a vain hope.

so after a while I finally caved and bought an iPhone, and by caved I mean couldn't wait until I could upgrade my phone. I'm hoping that this new app. will help me update my blog more and all that!

So Near yet So Far

Final deadline near (well 2days now) so i thought i'd update with some of my fnp work, this is a series of 10 pieces that see the world in a different light, as if you've never seen anything in this world around us before, for example; observing the cars around the place, someone might think that cars are peoples pets as everyone keeps them and looks after their own cars quite religously.

the type is hand traced, it is meant to look like handwriting but i traced it so that it still retains the layout and structure form the printed version
illustrations are from photographs taken by me.

So quite near to the end of the year (well 3days away from the deadline) i finally get some crazy plastic paper called grafix shrink film, with this you print/draw or cut whatever you want on it and then bake it and it shrinks into a smaller thicker plastic version, so i tried this with my frames from the 100 project (see earlier post) and unfortunately it didn't work, too hot i think, needs to be on a lower heat setting for a longer time.

BUT i quite like these crazy deformed type frames, i especially like the warped K, i can't really use these for finals my project but i'm still going to put them in.
it's a different way of looking at type as you normally see it in a very strict and regimented form.

for my live brief from first term i did a project for A14 printfinishers in nottingham, here are some work in progress shots of two of the three final pieces, the first is a fox tail the second being a panda bear, these use emboss and die cutting.

A different sort of thing..

No updates as of late really because of the mega stress of trying to mock up final pieces for my portfolio all in the time of 4ish days, and i'm only halfway through now!!!!

shown below are a few pictures that i drew! yeah i know i drew them (well copied them from photos really) i do like the way i have coloured them, i did enjoy doing these and it maybe something that i will do more of in the future.

i will update more after the dreaded mock interview with some of my latest work.

New CV!!

after sorting my business card last night i restarted my CV so that it will fit more in with the design of the card. i've gone for a simple layout i might add a picture of a hand holding a pen at the end of one of the sections to fit in with the business card. shown here are several pictures from different angles, the last image shows the piece folded with the logo section slotted through holes in the paper so that it shows the logo on the front page and holds it all together as well.
